I’m pleased to offer my short story entry for this year’s 2026 September Kinky Scribbles challenge!

I believe this is the first year I’ve ever been the first person to finish a story in the challenge (or at least the first person who completed the online submission form about it) but I hope we’ll see many more entries this year. In 2025 we set a record for 33 stories by 31 authors, which makes me wonder what the next 25 days will bring.
Life has been extremely stressful for me this year, but I had some luck in the stars aligning today to give me a long window of privacy with some downtime. I also lucked into some inspiration from the ever-amazing Tail-Blazer, who shared some art of a WIP that happened to feature one of my favorite sex positions for growing and shrinking: face-sitting. I’d actually attempted a kinky scribble earlier this week, writing 400 words of one of my old standby fantasies that I’ve never yet turned into erotica. In the end, while it was a good start, I could see that I wanted it to have a much longer project with more time and care than the kinky scribble flash fiction format allows. No problem there! I gave myself permission to let that one go for now and keep “whistling for discovery” as Lani Diane Rich puts it in her How Story Works podcast.

So in that spirit, here is my personal transparency breakdown of how I spent my time. (I do not expect others to go into this much detail, you can just say “I think it took me a few hours” and that does the trick, too.)
While writing I may have used some of my hyperfocus ability, but I did not work straight through from start to finish like I used to, because I’m getting better at prioritizing my mental health and rest. I started at around 10:30 Saturday morning and took multiple breaks for meals, chores, a long bubble bath with a good book, etc. That’s why I designed the scribble format to say “publish within 24 hours” because we all need rest!
My personal tally for this project:
- writing (4 hours)
- editing (30 minutes)
- adding content tags (10 minutes)
- formatting the story into Word Press and writing this blog intro (45 minutes)
- making it pretty (30 mins of searching for the right creative commons photo on Unsplash and 15 mins in making the graphics on Canva)
- posting to social media (10 minutes on the Bsky post and Alt Text for accessibility)
So roughly 6.25 hours.
